CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (WINA) – Veronica Fitzhugh is facing a second misdemeanor assault and battery charge, this time for allegedly yelling at someone who was taking a picture of the Robert E. Lee statue and a Confederate flag.

The incident occurred the afternoon of May 21. According to the victim, Fitzhugh approached him and began to yell at him, followed by a push. Officers arrived, spoke with both of them and warrants were advised. The victim obtained a warrant on June 5, and Fitzhugh was issued a summons on June 6.

Her attorney, Jeff Fogel, says Fitzhugh will appear in court on the latest charge June 19, the same day she makes a second appearance on an earlier charges.

On May 20, Fitzhugh was part of a group of people who surrounded statue activist Jason Kessler and three others and chanted for several minutes. Fitzhugh was charged with misdemeanor assault and battery and disorderly conduct for that incident on May 31. She allegedly shouted at Kessler just inches from his face. She later refused to give her name to responding police officers who briefly detained her.
