State Police and FBI solve one of the four so-called Colonial Parkway murders

SUFFOLK (WINA) – A DNA data hit of a deceased individual in Virginia’s Northern Neck has led to the solving of one of four so-called Colonial Parkway serial killings in the late ’80s. State Police have found Alan Wilmer, Sr. — who died in 2017 in Lancaster County — was the murderer of 20-year old David Knobling and 14-year old Robin Edwards. Their bodies were found shot to death on the south shore of the James River in Ragged Island wildlife refuge in Isle of Wight County September 23, 1987… across the river from James City County and the parkway.

The investigation continues into 3 other murders in a 3-year period from 1986 to 1989 on or around the parkway. State Police’s Corinne Geller says Wilmer — who was 63 when he died — was anything but hidden in the Northern Neck and Middle Peninsula communities as he drove a flashy vehicle, a well-known boat, and ran a tree service business serving that area.

The DNA evidence also associated him with a 1989 murder in Hampton, and State Police and the FBI ask anyone who knew, talked to, worked with, or even had romantic relations with Wilmer to contact them as they continue their investigation.
