CULPEPER (WINA) – State Police are investigating a Thursday morning shooting death at the hands of Culpeper County Sheriff’s deputies. State Police say deputies were called for a welfare check of an individual around 9:30 Thursday morning in the 12000 block of Horseshoe Drive near West Lakes just north of town.
The report says deputies arrived and found 44-year old David Francis Hairston in an agitated state, and he barricaded himself inside a residence. After some time with deputies trying to de-escalate the situation, State Police claim Hairston emerged from the residence with a firearm, discharged it, then aimed it at deputies. Deputies shot at Hairston and hit him… and he died at the scene.
The incident is under investigation.
