Student Creates Buzz With Beef About Flag

An African-American University of Virginia student has created a buzz on social media with a complaint about a Confederate flag with the likeness of an assault weapon and the motto “I dare you to come take it.” Third-year student Julia Braxton has a blog where she refers to the Confederate flag with a gun as an “inappropriate display of insensitivity.”

Braxton says she saw the flag on a door of an apartment complex that’s dominated by students in a neighborhood that’s within walking distance of the UVA Corner. She’s from the District of Columbia and says she’s been swamped with messages that support her complaint.
