CHARLOTTESVILLE (WINA) – Charlottesville City Council has just accepted the resignation of City Manager Tarron Richardson as of September 30th. Council did an unusual special meeting in unanimously amending his contract, and accepting his resignation. Richardson addressed the matter publicly saying only it’s for “personal reasons”.

City Attorney John Blair has become acting City Manager. Deputy City Attorney Lisa Robertson will be acting City Attorney. Mayor Nikuyah Walker says they have not had a lengthy discussion about searching for Richardson’s replacement, but plan to use a search firm.

When asked if there was anything at this time that precipitated his resignation, Richardson said “it’s just time”. He said he was working COVID, then the protests following the George Floyd incident. That led to him working long hours.

Richardson said he does not have any plans, yet, but to “get some sleep”. He will get a year’s salary as severance.
