Wednesday was far from normal for Greene County Public Schools. First, a man described by law enforcement as obviously impaired man was taken away after entering William Monroe Middle School. Not long after, a student was taken away from William Monroe High School for having a firearm in his backpack. A news release from the Greene County Sheriff’s Office is seen below:
Greene County Sheriff’s Office school resource officers responded to two unrelated incidents today at the Greene County Public Schools.
The first incident occurred at William Monroe Middle School at approximately 8:45 am. Christopher Wilde (pictured), who is a resident of Greene County, entered the Middle School through the main door at which point School Resource Officer Jason Tooley encountered Mr. Wilde. Mr. Wilde was obviously impaired and had no valid reason to be in the school. Mr. Wilde was taking into custody after a brief struggle between him and SRO Tooley. Mr. Wilde was charged with Obstruction of Justice and Possession of a Controlled Substance. Mr. Wilde is currently being held at Central Virginia Regional Jail on a secure bond.
The second incident occurred at the William Monroe High School at approximately 11:00 am. School Resource Officer Kevin Deane was notified by a student that another student had a hand gun in his back pack. School Administration was notified by SRO Deane, the student was contacted and a hand gun was recovered from his possession. The juvenile is currently being held at Blue Ridge Juvenile Detention Center. Charges are pending at this time on a second student involved in this incident.
