(CHARLOTTESVILLE, VA-WINA) The University of Virginia Football team landed another 2019 recruit on Monday night with the verbal commitment of 6’10” four star Kadin Shedrick. Below Chris Horne, recruiting expert for the Sabre analyzes the commitment.
Chris Horne, The Sabre:
The University of Virginia men’s basketball program has snagged a verbal from commitment one of the hottest prospects in the class of 2019. Kadin Shedrick, a 6’10”, 200-pound power forward/center prospect out of Holly Springs (N.C.), took to Twitter to announce his decision.
Shedrick compiled 32 scholarship offers in total; however, 21 of those offers – including 18 from the ACC, Big East, Big 10, Big 12, Pac-12 and SEC conferences – came in July and August of 2018. Virginia head coach Tony Bennett offered the promising big on Friday, August 10.
On August 14, Shedrick announced a final 8 of Florida, Indiana, Louisville, Providence, Virginia, Wake Forest, Wisconsin and Xavier. He took an official visit to Xavier last week, an unofficial to Wake Forest the week prior, and on Sunday (August 19) he was in Charlottesville on an unofficial visit at UVA. He commits one day after his visit to Virginia.
According to Phenom Hoops, Shedrick averaged almost 17 points, almost 10 rebounds, and over two blocks per game his junior season. Playing for the Garner Road AAU program at the 17U Adidas Summer Championships in July of 2018, the Holly Springs standout averaged 14.7 points and 8.2 rebounds per game in six games. Shedrick scored in double digits in five of the six games, highlighted by a 27-point (11-16 shooting, 2-2 from 3), 10-rebound outburst versus the OSA Crusaders.
247Sports ranks Shedrick as a 4-star recruit and the No. 90 overall prospect in the class of 2019. Rivals ranks him as a 3-star recruit. Look for his rankings to go up significantly before the Early Signing Period rolls around in November.
Phenom Hoops, which has followed the North Carolina native’s growth the past several years, wrote that “Shedrick has really established himself as a legit high major level prospect over the last six months and now that we’ve seen him a couple times this summer he 100% fits the mold as a Top 100 prospect. His body has improved significantly to go with an incredible motor on the offensive end. You can tell within a few minutes of watching him that he’s incredibly comfortable within his frame. Shedrick possesses the ability to turn over both shoulders and has started to develop a consistent mid-range game to go with that 6’10 frame. Without a doubt a can’t miss prospect.”
Shedrick is Virginia’s second commitment of the 2019 Class, joining St. John’s (Washington, D.C.) guard Casey Morsell. Morsell, who helped Team Takeover to a 2018 Peach Jam title on the Nike EYBL circuit, is also rated a 4-star prospect by 247Sports. 247Sports has Morsell as the No. 64 senior in the nation, while Rivals (No. 65) and ESPN (No. 65) also rank the talented guard among the top 75 seniors in the country.
