UVA plans to cut 40 human resources positions

(CHAROTTESVILLE – WINA)  The University of Virginia plans to eliminate 40 positions from its human resources staff.  UVA’s student newspaper, the “Cavalier Daily”, says the number of human resources employees will shrink from 240 to 200.  These actions affect employees in the Academic Division, the Medical Center, and the Physicians Group.

The Cavalier Daily reports it has a letter from an employee who complained about a lack of transparency.  The University launched what’s called the “U – First” project several years ago as part of the Cornerstone Plan to reduce costs.  Michael Latsko, who’s listed as a talent transition lead for “U -First”, recently sent emails to many employees.   His memo says affected staffers will get priority if they apply for open positions at UVA.
