Victim of Lake Monticello house fire believed to be one of owners

House Fire at Lake Monticello UPDATE

The deceased male located in the dwelling is believed to be that of one of the homeowners, but it may take several weeks or longer to make a positive identification of the deceased male through DNA analysis. It will also take several weeks to get the lab results and finalize the fire cause and origin investigation. While the Sheriff’s Office is still working on the investigation, we are not looking for any suspects nor is there any threat to public safety.

The family request privacy during this tragic time in their lives. They also request that members of the media and the general public please stay off their property.

On 04/03/2019 at 3:17 PM, a structure fire was reported at 4 Roadview Terrace in Lake Monticello. Fire crews from multiple agencies worked to extinguish the blaze, but the dwelling was severally damaged. While fighting the fire, fire fighters discovered a deceased male in the dwelling. The Fluvanna County Sheriff’s and The Virginia State Police are currently investigating the scene. The deceased male will be sent to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner in Richmond for identification and a manner of death investigation. This is an ongoing investigation and no further information will be released at this time.
