After court ruling, UVA brings back Cazeem Moore, Jacob Holmes

CHARLOTTESVILLE, VA (CVILLE RIGHT NOW) – Following last week’s Denver court ruling applying the NCAA’s 5-year eligibility model to 2022 high school graduates, Virginia football has brought back a pair of defensive linemen who the program believed expired their eligibility after last season.

Defensive end Cazeem Moore and defensive tackle Jacob Holmes are rejoining the program for preseason practice, “as the program assesses matters associated with their return.”

Virginia welcomes the opportunity because those two defensive linemen would add not only add production and experience but also depth to a defensive line that rotates frequently to keep players fresh in coach John Rudzinski’s scheme. They each produced three sacks last year on a defense that ranked second in points per game and third in the ACC in total defense.  Holmes transferred into the program from Fresno State and Moore joined the Wahoos from East Carolina.  As they practice, a final determination will be made in the next few weeks whether they can be permanently added to the roster, but it is reasonable to assume if they are practicing, that is likely to happen.  Logistics could be financial, because the court ruling has made them eligible under NCAA regulations.
