CHARLOTTESVILLE, VA (CVILLE RIGHT NOW) – With much of the Albemarle County and Charlottesville area still digging out from the five inches of snow and ice that fell over the weekend, experts are warning that more winter weather could be in store for the region this coming weekend.

Forecasts are calling for the possibility of snow on Saturday and Sunday, but Accuweather meteorologist Jason Caterina doesn’t think the weather will be too impactful.

“We’ve got another one of those coastal systems trying to form up and as we head through the next couple of days we’ll keep an eye on that,” Caterina said. “Right now, it doesn’t look like it’s going to amount to a lot.”

Popular WXRisk meteorologist David Tolleris posted Monday that some European models project a storm will “absolutely blast the MidAtlantic and all of New England with historic snowstorm of exceptional intensity and long duration.”

Tolleris said that outcome is “extreme,” and nothing something he thinks is likely.

“Certainly, the chance is there for a bit of snow or flurries Saturday night or Sunday, but right now it doesn’t seem nearly the blockbuster we just saw,” Caterina said. “… I’m not an alarm bell guy and I don’t ring an alarm bell unless it’s really needed to be run, and at this point being Tuesday and we’re talking about Sunday with a coastal storm like we had last week, take last week’s storm as an example where you have to continue to watch the models and see what’s trending.”
