JARRATT, VA (CVILLE RIGHT NOW) – Because of a unique problem at the particular plant leading to Boar’s Head Provisions’ recall of liverwurst and various other products, the company announces the indefinite closure of its Jarratt, VA plant. In addition, the company says due to the root cause of listeria contamination found in the specific production process at the Jarratt plant, they have decided to permanently discontinue liverwurst.

The company release says, “It pains us to impact the livelihoods of hundreds of hard-working employees.”
“We do not take lightly our responsibility as one of the area’s largest employers… but, under these circumstances, we feel that a plant closure is the most prudent course.”
They pledge to assist plant workers in the transition process.

At least two lawsuits, from families of people who died in Hampton Roads, have been filed. Click here to view the company’s entire release.
