Charlottesville, VA (CVILLE RIGHT NOW): Multiple traffic accidents have occurred on and around Ivy Road this morning that have made traffic near impassable.   We recommend you avoid the area of the University at all costs if you can.

UPDATE: Due to a punctured gas line, Albemarle County Fire Department responded to the intersection of Route 29 and Greenbriar Drive, there is currently a significant backup on 29 around that intersection, and Greenbriar Drive itself is closed between Seminole Trail and Commonwealth Drive while the line is prepared.  When repairs are completed, the story will be updated.

UPDATE: The traffic that has extended onto Route 29 has backed up all the way back to Interstate 64.  Anyone travelling on 64 can expect delays on the highway.

A sinkhole on Ivy Road in the area around Reed Lane near the UVA police station has closed the road in both directions while repairs are in progress.    Any updates on repairs will be added here.

Likely in part due to the diversion of traffic off the road, crews are working to move a large truck that is stuck in the tunnel at the intersection of Ivy Road and Old Ivy Road.  A picture of the truck was captured by a listener and can be seen below.

Finally, a crash occurred near the Barracks Road Shopping Center at the intersection of the 250 Bypass and route 601. Westbound traffic is currently closed. Any updates will be posted on this story as the accidents are cleared.
