CHARLOTTESVILLE, VA (CVILLE RIGHT NOW) — Charlottesville-Albemarle Regional Airport will provide daily non-stop service to Newark Liberty International Airport via United Airlines starting Sept. 24.

The new route to Newark adds another path to New York City for area travelers. Newark is also the largest hub of international travel for United Airlines, with over 40 routes to destinations in Europe, Africa, Asia and the Middle East.

“Newark service is a reflection of Charlottesville’s growth and commitment to connecting Central Virginia with the rest of the world,” Jason Burch, CEO of CHO Airport, said in a statement.

Chairman of the Board of the Charlottesville Albemarle Airport Authority and Albemarle County Executive Jeff Richardson also praised the move in a statement, saying that it positioned Charlottesville-Albemarle Airport for continued growth in a company release.

“We are grateful to United Airlines for recognizing the strength and potential of this market.” Richardson said.

The Newark service comes after American Airlines resumed its daily service to Chicago O’Hare International Airport earlier this month after suspending it during the coronavirus pandemic.
