CHARLOTTESVILLE, VA (CVILLE RIGHT NOW) – Billy Strings, the Grammy Award-winning bluegrass musician, did not take the stage for an encore Saturday night, the second of two Charlottesville shows at John Paul Jones Arena, and videos circulating online on social media appear to show him being injured in a fall.

Sunday afternoon, Strings posted an image of an x-ray showing a bone break just above his left ankle on social media, apparently confirming the incident.

Strings and his four band mates played two-and-a-half hours during a sold-out show and had been off the stage for about 10 minutes after the main show ended. While fans awaited the band retaking the stage for an encore, and activity in stage-right approach area, no one came back onto the stage.

The main lights suddenly came on, drawing jeers from some in the crowd, and ending the evening.

About a half-hour later, an ambulance with a police escort could be seen headed south on Emmet St., passing Ivy Rd. and headed to the UVA Medical Center.

Strings’ representatives did not release any information Saturday or Sunday morning, and a JPJ spokesperson did not immediately respond to a request for comment from Cville Right Now.

The online videos appear to show Strings scooting himself off the stage after a fall.

A 911 dispatch has been posted on social media that reports an “artist with a broken leg,” and discussing possible transportation.
