Roundabout construction to shut down Hydraulic-Hillsdale intersection beginning July 8

CHARLOTTESVILLE, VA (CVILLE RIGHT NOW) – It’s got to get worse before it gets better as VDOT and the City of Charlottesville want to alert drivers of an impending month-long shutdown of the intersection of Hydraulic and Hillsdale. VDOT Hydraulic Roadway project manager Will Stowe says they’ll be building a roundabout to replace the signaled, t-intersection reduce travel times by 20-to-30-percent… and provide space for walkers and bikers. In order to build that roundabout, they’ll be closing that intersection — meaning shutting down through-traffic using Hydraulic or Hillsdale — from July 8 through at-most August 13… to be finished just before school starts. There will still be access to the Kroger and Whole Foods off Hydraulic. Stowe says detour signs will direct drivers to the bypass-Emmet Street interchange.
