CHARLOTTESVILLE, VA (CVILLE RIGHT NOW) – About a dozen supporters met Perriello in the parking lot of the 5th Street Albemarle County Office Building Annex as he cast his ballot Friday morning for the August 4 primaries.

“I’m thinking about voting for this Tom Perriello guy here,” one voter told Cville Right Now at the event. “You can trust him, that he puts the people first, that he’s focused on trying to bring down costs and get wages up and restore some common sense.”

Not all were from Albemarle County, but a few from the county went inside to the polling location with him to cast their votes.

“Thank you, guys, so much for coming out today and thank you for voting, for early voting,” Perriello told the gathering. “One of the great things here in Virginia is we’ve gone from being one of the most anti-voting states to one of the most pro-voting states, as so much work has been done to make it easier and safer to early vote.”

He urged people to vote before or on August 4, which is the primary day.

“I know people are so upset with what happening in Washington, with the way John McGuire has sold out our communities, and they want a way to get involved and this is ultimately the best form of accountability,” he said. “It’s the ballot box, where it’s a great chance to show that ultimately in this democracy the people still must hold the power, not those huge corporations writing dark money checks to the McGuire campaign.”

He thanks everyone for coming out and reminded them they can vote this weekend and next weekend.

Not only can voters cast their ballots on Saturdays in Virginia, but a new law passed by the General Assembly last winter that went into effect July 1 also requires early voting be made available on two Sundays. As a result, polls will also be open this Sunday.

The last day of early voting is Saturday, Aug. 1.
