Update: UVA names suspect in custody after stabbing near UVA dining hall

Update (7/23/2026, 3:12 p.m.): UVA released a statement Thursday afternoon, naming the suspect as 46-year-old Randall Fisher of Orange and stating he has been charged and is being held without bond. The victim, who sustained non-life-threatening injuries, was released from the UVA Medical Center Thursday morning. After the suspect was detained by UVA Police, the scene was stabilized around 4 a.m.

CHARLOTTESVILLE, VA (CVILLE RIGHT NOW) – University of Virginia Police have a suspect in custody following a stabbing near the O-Hill Dining Hall on McCormick Rd., according to an emergency alert issued shortly after 3:30 a.m. Thursday.

The alert told people to avoid the area and, about 15 minutes later, a second alert said a suspect had been taken in custody.

UVA Police said the individuals involved knew each other and are not affiliated with the University.
