CHARLOTTESVILLE, VA (CVILLE RIGHT NOW) – UPDATE: The University of Virginia will be holding a special Board of Visitors meeting on Friday, May 10, 2024. The purpose of the meeting is two-fold: to bring the Board up to date on the May 4 demonstration and security plans for final exercises. UVA Communications released the statement below Wednesday afternoon.
The Board of Visitors of the University of Virginia will hold a special meeting from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. on Friday, May 10, 2024. The meeting will be in open and closed sessions and will be all-virtual, held by electronic communication means. The method by which the Board of Visitors chooses to meet shall not be changed unless the Board of Visitors provides a new meeting notice in accordance with the provisions of Va. Code §2.2-3707.
The open sessions will be streamed live for public viewing and can be accessed at https://bov.virginia.edu/live.
The purpose of this meeting is to brief the Board on safety and security planning and emergency response and recovery related to a demonstration and encampment on Grounds from April 30 through May 4, 2024 and security plans associated with final exercises. The meeting times are approximate; the Board cannot always anticipate changes in the length of its meetings.
There will be no opportunity for unscheduled comments from the public at this meeting.
CHARLOTTESVILLE, VA (CVILLE RIGHT NOW) – UPDATE: University of Virginia Jennifer “JJ” Wagner has given a new figure on how many were arrested during the May 4, 2024 pro-Palestinian protest on the Lawn. Initially noted as 25, the new figure is 27: 12 students; 8 people unaffiliated with the university, including one who was charged with assaulting an offer; 4 former employees; 3 former either employees or students.
CHARLOTTESVILLE, VA (CVILLE RIGHT NOW) – University of Virginia President Jim Ryan, UVA Police Chief Tim Longo and other senior leaders will convene an online town hall on Tuesday, May 7, 2022, to provide an update and answer questions about Saturday’s protest near the UVA Chapel that led police to declare an unlawful assembly and arrest of demonstrators.
Registration is required if a participant would like to ask a question. Once registered. a separate link will be sent through email. The registration link can accommodate 3,000 people, while the livestream can host an unlimited number of viewers.
Provost Ian Baucom, Chief Operating Officer Jennifer “J.J.” Wagner Davis and Vice President and Chief Student Affairs Officer Kenyon Bonner are also scheduled to join the town hall
