CHARLOTTESVILLE, VA (CVILLE RIGHT NOW)- Beginning July 7, there will be permitted utility work taking place 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. between the intersections of 4th Street NW and Ridge Street and 240 W. Main Street in Charlottesville.

Drivers can expect closed lanes and detours, and are asked to drive cautiously around the work occuring until it is scheduled to conclude Thursday, July 16.

Close to the University, due to a tower crane being broken down and demobilized, Copeley Road will be closed Friday, July 10 through Sunday, July 12 from the Railroad Bridge to Ivy Road. Copeley will be closed from 6 a.m. until 5 p.m.

Detours will be posted, but, if possible, drivers are asked to avoid the area.

Work also began last week along Barracks Road making water system repairs in the neighborhoods on either side of the busy Charlottesville thoroughfare.  The work will bring the water system that services homes and buildings located between Blue Ridge Rd. and Rugby Rd, up to the current industry standard.

Crews are working from 9 a.m. until 3 p.m. Monday through Friday.  During daylight hours, one lane of Barracks Road will be closed to traffic and a detour, notated by orange signs, will be in place.

Night work started on Monday, June 29.  Construction is taking place from 9 p.m. until 5 a.m, and during that time, Barracks road is completely closed to through traffic.
