CHARLOTTESVILLE, VA (CVILLE RIGHT NOW) – Many UVA athletes born in the USA will be representing their country at the 2024 Summer Olympic Games in France. However, UVA will also be well-represented by two of its most decorated international alumnae.
2019 UVA alumna Heidi Long has been named to the Great Britain Rowing Team for the Women’s 8. At UVA, the Buckinghamshire native was the captain of the ACC Crew of the Year, winning 8 that finished 1st at the 2018-19 ACC Championship and 12th in the NCAA Championship.
In the shot put, former Cavalier thrower Filip Mihaljević qualified for his first Olympic games for Croatia. Mihaljević won the 2017 ACC Outdoor Field Performer of the Year and 2017 Men’s Field MVP of the ACC Outdoor Championships in his senior year. Filip also won gold at the 2022 European Championships in Munich and silver at the 2024 Euros in Rome.
