VDOT names new resident engineer for Louisa

CHARLOTTESVILLE, VA (CVILLE RIGHT NOW)- The Virginia Department of Transportation has named a new resident engineer for Louisa to oversee its operations there.   

Craig Simpson will be taking over as the engineer in residence.   

The former assistant district traffic engineer for the department operating from Fredericksburg will now head up a contingent of 79 employees responsible for emergency response, land use, and highway maintenance in the three counties of Louisa, Fluvanna, and Orange. 

A resident or Orange himself, Simpson will now return to the Culpeper District, where he also worked previously as the Assistant Resident Engineer for Land Use for Warrenton.   

“He has a proven track record of directing complex traffic studies, navigating high-stakes site plan reviews, and managing Access Management standards to protect the safety and capacity of the state highway system.” Sean Nelson, Culpeper District Engineer, stated in praise of Simpson’s appointment to the post.   

He will be the primary liaison for local government for all VDOT programs.
