CHARLOTTESVILLE, VA (CVILLE RIGHT NOW) — For the first time since 2019, Virginia women’s basketball will face in-state foe Old Dominion this upcoming season.

The Cavaliers will take on the Monarchs at the Chartway Arena in Norfolk on Nov. 15, almost seven years to the day since Virginia last beat Old Dominion at John Paul Jones Arena in 2019, 56-53.  The Cavaliers finished 13-17 that season.

The Monarchs will come to Charlottesville next season to continue their series with the ‘Hoos.  ODU currently leads the series 19-16 going back to 1973.

“Both women’s basketball programs have a rich history, and it makes all the sense in the world for us to be competing on a stage like this in front of the rest of the state …” Virginia head coach Aaron Rousell said in a statement. “The 757 area will prove to be vitally important to our program and hopefully allow us to connect with many alums while we are there as well.”

The Monarchs finished 18-14 last season, falling in the fourth round of the Sun Belt Championship 68-67 to ULM.
