CHARLOTTESVILLE, VA (CVILLE RIGHT NOW) — UVA tennis alumna Emma Navarro took to the famed grass of Wimbledon last Tuesday to begin her run at the 2026 tournament.

The 2021 National Champion, who played for the Cavaliers from 2020-2022, began her fourth career run at Wimbledon with a win over Spaniard Paula Badosa.

Navarro dropped an early set to Badosa before quickly getting back on track to win the next two and see off her opponent.

Next, Navarro took on Oksana Selekhmeteva in the round of 64 Thursday and similarly dropped set one before taking two and three to move on.

In the third round though, Navarro ran into talented Ukrainian Marta Kostyuk on Saturday, who made use of excellent serve play to take down the former Cavalier and end her Wimbledon run.

Basketball

Former UVA guard Jacari White, coming off his final collegiate season with the Cavaliers, has signed his first professional contract.  White will play in Belgium for the Windrose Giants Antwerp for the 2026-27 season.

White averaged 9.4 points per game in 2026 and was a key player off the bench in the Wahoos’ campaign last season, a year that saw them win a NCAA Tournament game for the first time since 2019.

Antwerp is coming off a Pro Basketball League (PBL) title last season, their first in 26 years.

Meanwhile, as the FIFA World Cup rages on across North and Central America, fellow Virginia basketball alum Jay Huff is with Team USA at the FIBA World Cup for a pair of qualifying contests this week. Of the current qualifying team, Huff is the only one in the NBA.

Huff and Team USA are coming off a furious fourth quarter comeback against the Dominican Republic that clinched the 82-81 win on Thursday. Huff had four blocks in the win.

The U.S. will round out this qualifying window with a matchup with Mexico Monday night 10 p.m. EST.

 Track & Field

Virginia thrower Jerimiah Nubbe was named the Outdoor Men’s Track & Field Scholar-Athlete of the Year by the ACC for his outstanding performance on and off the field.

Nubbe was named an All-American for the sixth year in a row this past season and is the 2026 ACC Champion in the men’s hammer throw. Nubbe also finished fourth in the event at the NCAA championships in Eugene, hitting a mark of 72.52.

Beyond that, he is majoring in Aerospace Engineering and has a GPA of 4.0.  He is one of 30 athletes on the Virginia track & field team that made the all-ACC academic team.

World Cup quarterfinals: It’s Messi, Morocco, and 6 teams from Europe. And that’s not unusual

More World Cup teams. Same World Cup story. This edition started with 48 teams; it's now down to eight, with six of those from Europe. And unless Morocco pulls off a series of surprising outcomes over the final two weeks, the champion will come from Europe or South America. Again. As always.
