Wednesday 3/1 News At Noon

Muna–“I Know A Place”: The trio were in the Corner Lounge in November while touring with Grouplove, check out the session here! Their debut album, About U, came out at the beginning of last month. Read what The Cavalier Daily had to say about it. The record has been called “the strongest album of 2017 so far” by OUT Magazine and the song is being referred to as a “queer anthem”. The video for “I Know A Place” hit the web earlier this week and in the caption the band says, “We wanted the video to be a depiction of the fact that acknowledging the humanity of your enemy can be the most powerful battle tactic of all. Lay down your weapon.”

Little Dragon–“High”: The Swedish electronic band formed in 1996 and their 2014 release, Nabuma Rubberband, received a Grammy nomination for Best Dance/Ectronic Album. They take inspiration from Janet Jackson’s slow jams, Prince’s back catalog, and club culture. See them at the Shaky Beats and Coachella festivals as well as on tour with Glass Animals.

Pokey LaFarge–“Riot In The Streets”: His most recent effort, Manic Revelutions, is set for a May 19th release and he’ll take the stage at the Red Wing Roots Festival here in Virginia on July 16th.

Thursday 3/2 News At Noon

The 1975–“By Your Side”: A cover of the Sade song, the song is a charity single for War Child which provides aid to children in war-torn countries around the world, Brandi Carlile working with them now as well. Matty says about the sound, “When I was listening to it , I was listening to it with a real sense of modernity and thinking, ‘wow, this is really really forward thinking’ so me and [1975 drummer] couldn’t help ourselves. It’s such a beautiful song.” It’s the first song they’ve released since 2016’s I Like It When You Sleep For You Are So Beautiful Yet So Unaware of It. On February 22nd they won the BRIT Award for Best British group.

Jack Savoretti–“Only You”: The British singer-songwriter’s latest album, Sleep No More is already a hit in the UK. This is his first single in America.

Jane Siberry–“Anytime”: The Canadian signer-songwriter who also sometimes records under the name Issa’s new album Angels Bend Closer is out now.

Dispatch–“Only The Wild Ones”: The group toted as “the biggest independent rock band in history” have a new album on the way, no title or release date is available yet. They will also be touring in the summer.

Portugal. The Man–“Feel It Still”: They’ve been working on their new album with Mike D of The Beastie Boys and are touring with support from Local Natives and Car Seat Headrest with stops including Richmond on April 4th, as well as Bonnaroo.

Rob Drabkin–“Someday”: The new musician out of Denver has already played at Red Rocks and in The Middle East.

The Dig–“Jet Black Hair”: The tune was mixed by Richard Swift who has produced and mixed for Foxygen, The Shins, Nathaniel Rateliff & The Night Sweats, and is a member of The Black Keys. The Dig have toured with The Lumineers, Portugal. The Man, The Walkmen, Beady Eye, The Antlers and more. They’re also featured on the Amazon playlist Love Me/Love Me Not.

Japandroids–“Northeast Southwest”: The Canadian duo met in college but broke up in 2009 after their debut album was released in order to preserve their friendship. The album was so successful that they reunited. Their latest effort, Near To The Wild Heart of Life was produced by Peter Katis.

Ray Davies–“Rock ‘n’ Roll Cowboys”: His upcoming album, Americana, is his first in almost a decade and drops on April 21st. It was recorded at Konk, the studio Davies founded with The Kinks in 1973. The Jayhawks served as his backing band. Davies arranged, wrote & conceived the album on his own but co-produced it with John Jackson & Guy Massey.

Whitehorse–“Boys Like you”: Whitehorse is the duo of Melissa McClelland and Luke Doucet and their album, Panther In The Dollhouse comes out on May 12th.
