Wednesday 4/19 News At Noon

Jake La Botz–“How I Wish She Was Mine” From his new album, Sunnyside, out May 12. The song is about “how we perpetuate pain and suffering through wishful thinking”. This is the Americana artist, drifter, former punk and actor (True Detective), first album in 4 years and was produced by Jimmy Sutton (JD McPherson, Pokey LaFarge).

Jo Harman–“No One Left To Blame” The British soul singer-songwriter’s new album, People We Become, was recorded in Nashville and is out now. It is her sophomore release and includes a guest spot from Michael McDonald of the Doobie Brothers, produced by Fred Mollin (Carly Simon, Billy Joel, Joe Cocker).

Lola Marsh–“Wishing Girl”: Lola Marsh is a duo, not a person and is led by Yael Shoshana Cohen and are originally our of Tel Aviv. Their new record, Remember Roses, was written by instrumentalist, Gil Landau, and Cohen, produced by Landau and was inspired by everyone from Edith Piaf, Bon Iver, Sufjan Stevens, Fleet Foxes, and Nick Drake. It drops on June 9th. The two used to be a couple but are not anymore.

Scott Fisher–“Who Will Save Us?”: Music has been featured on Better Call Saul, Breaking Bad, Felicity, Parks and Rec, Gossip Girl, Brothers and Sisters, and more. His forthcoming album, Jumpin’ At Shadows is set for a May 23rd release. He is an artist out of Oregon who is now base in LA and the record was recorded in both places, along with Texas. The recording band is bassist Robert Everhart of The Rival Sons and Jeff Anthony of Chuck Prophet and Sheryl Crow on drums.

Waxahatchee–“Silver”: The fourth album by Katie Crutchfield under the name Waxahatchee is called Out In The Storm and will be available in July. The video for this song is out now and Crutchfield says that the song is about “self-examination and the different shapes that takes, good and bad”. She is in Harrisonburg on the 30th.

The Mastersons–“Perfect”: From the new record, Transient Lullaby. The husband and wife duo consisting of Eleanor Whitmore and Chris Masterson have been members of Steve Earle’s touring band, The Dukes and Duchesses since 2011 and will be on the upcoming world tour. They are based in Brooklyn now but are both originally in Texas, have been married since 2009, were featured on each other’s 2009 solo records, and started performing as a duo in 2011.

Future Islands with Debbie Harry–“Shadows”: The new album, The Far Field is out now. The Baltimore band consists of Gerrit Williams on programming and keys, lyricist and vocalist Samuel T. Herring, and William Cushion on guitar and bass. This is their fifth album and they will be at The Jefferson on May 30th.

The Young Folk–“Through The Wilderness”: The new single from the Irish rockers out of Dublin. They have deep musical ties–keyboardist Paul Butler’s great great uncle, Peadar Kearney wrote the Irish national anthem. THe band are influenced by The National, Tom Waits, Fleet Foxes, Crosby, Stills & Nash, and Radiohead. Each of the band members contributed to the band’s sophomore album, First Sign of Morning, from which this song is taken.
