Wednesday 2/15 News At Noon

Surf Vietnam–“Melancholia”: The Boston band is an indie supergroup consisting of members of PARKS and Air Traffic Controller, who were in the Corner Lounge a few weeks ago.

The Black Angels–“Currency”: The psych-rock 5-piece band out of Austin formed in 2004 and their first album in 4 years, Death Song, is out on April 21st. It was recorded and written mostly during the election cycle.

Emel–“Ensen”: The title track to the Tunisian singer-songwriter’s new album which drops on the 24th. She now lives in New York and recorded this album in 7 countries with multiple producers including Sigur Ros.

Thursday 2/16 News At Noon

Gold Connections–“New Religion”: From the self-titled debut EP featuring and produced by Will Toledo of Car Seat Headrest, set for a March 31st release. It was recorded in Williamsburg in the Spring of 2014. The band is led by lyricist, songwriter and guitarist, Will Marsh. He is performing solo tomorrow night at the Southern for Lowland Hum’s record release show.

Lowland Hum–“Palm Lines”: The single from Charlottesville’s husband and wife duo’s album, Thin, which hit the shelves last Friday. Their album release party is tomorrow night at The Southern and Will Marsh of Gold Connections is playing as well.

Rodney Crowell–“I Ain’t Over Yet” Feat. Rosanne Cash & John Paul White”: Crowell’s album Close Ties drops on March 31st and you can catch him in DC on April 1st and Bristol on September 16th.

Friday 2/17 News At Noon

Modern English–“Moonbeam”: The British post-punk trailblazers’ new album, Take Me To The Trees, is their first in 30 years and comes out next Friday. Their US tour kicks off at South By Southwest next month and includes a stop in DC on April 10th. The album is by 4/5 of the original members, Steven Walker, Robbie Gray, Gary McDowell and Mick Conroy, who crowd-funded it through Pledge Music.

Springtime Carnivore–“Midnight Room”: 28 year-old Greta Morgan, Alias Springtime Carnivore, is touring with The Head And The Heart in the Spring. The title track to her new album, written during a massive breakup and produced by Chris Coady (The Orwells, Future Islands, Beach House).

Thundercat–“Show You The Way” Feat. Michael McDonald & Kenny Loggins: The Grammy winner’s new album, Drunk, drops next Friday and is his third full-length release. He is currently on a wold tour that includes Coachella and a sold-out show in DC on March 5th. The record is comprised of 23 tracks and also features the likes of Flying Lotus, Kendrick Lamar, Wiz Khalifa, Pharrell and more. The album name is both serious and humorous.

Monday 2/20 News At Noon

The Commuters–“Before I Was Born”: The title track from the New York band’s new EP, out now. The band debuted in 2012 and are influenced by Bon Iver, David Bowie, Muse, Peter Gabriel, and The Killers. The band is comprised of childhood friends, Uri Djemal and Zeeshan Zaidi who produced all of the band’s releases so far, and Paul Amorese and Ben Zeverin.

Jesca Hoop–“Memories Are Now”: The title track from last week’s Brighten The Corners weekly giveaway. Jesca’s US tour starts on the 26th. The record was produced by Blake Mills (Dawes, Alabama Shakes). She will be in Vienna on March 2nd.

Pixies–“Bel Esprit”: The new single from their latest release, Head Carrier. They will be in Richmond on May 9th, plus DC on May 16th and 17th. Cymbals Eat Guitars are opening.

Colin Hay–“Come Tumblin’ Down”: Colin Hay, formerly of Men At Work, has a new album, Fierce Mercy, dropping on March 3rd. It was recorded in Nashville and LA, mixed by Vance Powell (Chris Stapleton, Jack White) and Gordon Hammond (Buddy Miller). He is touring and will be stopping in Alexandria on March 12th and 13th.

Low Cut Connie–“Revolution Rock ‘N’ Roll”: The Philadelphia outlet is fronted by singer/pianist, Adam Weiner. They will release a pair of albums, Dirty Pictures, were recorded in Memphis and will his stores in May. They have performed at festivals including Austin City Limits, Bonnaroo and Lollapalooza.

Quinn Sullivan–“Something For Me”: The 17-year-old has been playing professionally for 75% of his life, jamming in his first band at 3 and performing on Ellen at 6. He has opened for BB King and shared the stage with Buddy Guy, Joe Bonamassa, Eric Clapton, Derek Trucks & Susan Tedeschi, Los Lobos and The Roots. His album, Midnight Highway, was produced by Tom Hambridge who also serves as his studio and touring drummer.
