Videos of the Day – week of 9/22

the above video relates to a supergroup-filled weekend…!

9/22 – Coming up next weekend, The Corner is proud to celebrate our 8th birthday with a $10.61 low-dough show at The Southern with Mike Doughty (Sat. Oct. 4)!  His new album just came out last week (funded entirely by fans thru PledgeMusic), and here’s what Mr. Doughty says about the 1st single: “The title of ‘Light Will Keep Your Heart Beating in the Future’ is a headline from a newspaper that I saw a guy reading across from me on the subway. Good Goose, my producer, and I put the song together around a banjo part that I improvised. He just happened to have a banjo in the studio, which is weird, considering he’s a hip-hop guy. He looped it, put it over a beat, and I sang fragments and phrases from my notebook.”

9/23 – producer extraordinaire (Paul McCartney, Ryan Adams, Laura Marling, Tom Jones) Ethan Johns is in the Corner Lounge today before his show at The Southern!

9/24 – the Nashville band All Them Witches is at The Southern tonight…heavy, man!

9/25 – it’s not exactly breaking news that Ryan Adams is a Misfits/Danzig fan, but what would it sound like if Johnny Depp joined him live on stage to perform “Mother?”  Check out the footage from last week in England…btw, Johnny appears on Ryan’s new album on the track “Kim,” which he also performed at this same show!

9/26 – There’s a new Thom Yorke album in the world today – the video & first single are free, the rest is $6 and is being offered up exclusively through BitTorrent.  Take that, digital gatekeepers! I personally think he might be onto something here & can’t believe it’s taken this long for artists to be able (or willing to) control their digital output like this!

And don’t forget, Cville faves Sons of Bill rock The Jefferson again tmrw night, ahead of their latest nationally-released album Love & Logic, which comes out Tuesday!  Here’s a May 2013 live video of the new single “Bad Dancer”

How the rich pass on their wealth. And how you can too

Death and taxes may be inevitable. A big bill for your heirs is not. The rich have made an art of avoiding taxes and making sure their wealth passes down effortlessly to the next generation. But the tricks they use – to expedite payouts to heirs and avoid handing money to the government – can also work for people with far more modest estates.
